INTRODUCTION

In Grandvalira, there is, without doubt, fun all year round. When the snow melts, Grandvalira changes the skis and snowboards for bicycles and trekking boots. The most important thing is that the fun and the desire for sport never stop, whether enjoying the winter or the pleasant summer heat. For this reason, Grandvalira opens its Campbase for the third consecutive year, extending its offer and accessible area. The Campbase starts on 7th July and finishes on 10th September. In this manner, part of the infrastructure remains open throughout the summer season, allowing users to continue to enjoy the Andorra Pyrenees.

Five open sectors, thrilling descents on mountain bike and courses to walk, plus activities for the whole family. This offer has no limits. All this surrounded by the most beautiful natural environment of the area. Moreover, if you wish to relax and recharge your batteries, Grandvalira can offer a wide range of gastronomy, with panoramic terraces where you can enjoy the sun and completely switch off.


NEW ATTRACTIONS

1- Construction of three new free-ride circuits in the Grandvalira-Soldeu sector: Nou Obac, a long, easy level circuit; La Cova, the first track which weaves through the woods; and Roller Coaster, a short yet intense track full of ups and downs, plateaus and folds.
2- Improvements to the existing free-ride circuits, such as the fitting of six new wooden modules on the Shore track, the result being a track with up to 12 raised sections, one of which is a 5m balance beam.
3- Improvements to the layout and content of the modules circuit, a zone located in Pla d’Espiolets in which to learn mountain bike techniques.
4- Implementation of the new Multiactivities Ticket Pass, which includes ascent and descent in a cable car, plus different family leisure activities in the Grandvalira-Canillo sector.
5- Big increase in the range of family and children's activities at the Campbase, centred mainly on Canillo: installation of a veritable fairground with slides, raised sections and bridges, inflatables and a play area. New attractions such as the Devalkart, where you can enjoy a descent with this new modality of engineless karts. Plus other new attractions, such as donkey rides and the possibility of sailing to Llac d’El Forn by paddle boat or water scooter.
6- Setting up of the ticket pass + barbecue, which allows us to access Pla d’Espiolets (in the Grandvalira-Soldeu sector) by cable car and enjoy a barbecue at the Gall de Bosc restaurant, all for just €15 per adult.


OSCAR SÁIZ, CAMPBASE MTB CHIEF

Campbase MTB counts on a model professional of the sector in order to oversee its facilities. Óscar Sáiz is one of the world's most outstanding specialists in descent, and his CV is an endless list of victories amassed from 1992 to today. Born on 28th August 1973, Sáiz has been Spanish DH (descent) champion on three occasions, in 1993, 1998 and 2004. His outstanding track record includes a triumph at the NORBA DH championship in Pittsburgh, USA, which he won in 1998, and his victory at the Red Bull Downtown in Lisbon in 2001.

He first rode a bike when he was just 2 years of age, getting involved in the world of MTB in 1991, competing at the end of this year in a trial at the Catalonia Open in Ametlla del Vallès, Barcelona. He is, without any doubt, a huge reference point in this sport, for which reason he was entrusted with the design of all the descent tracks, based on his extensive experience. As he himself said, the goal of the Grandvalira Campbase MTB is “to continue as leaders in MTB free-ride facilities”.

Óscar Sáiz emphasises the good preparation of the Campbase MTB, which is fully prepared both for amateurs and experienced users alike, although he believes it is essential that all users act in accordance with their level, avoiding any risks. “Anybody who can ride a bike can start out in this sport”, says Óscar. And there is no better place for this than Grandvalira Campbase MTB, for which he is in charge.


CAMPBASE MTB

This is one of the main attractions of Campbase Grandvalira, with different circuits and modalities, allowing all mountain bike fans to find their ideal track. It is worth remembering that this year we have opened new tracks.

The head of Campbase MTB is, as we have said, Óscar Sáiz, one of the world's top ten in the descent modality. Both him and his team provide advice to users when it comes to choosing the modality and difficulty of the itineraries. Campbase Mountain bike is concentrated on the Grandvalira-Soldeu sector with different free-ride and cross-country routes and module circuit. A ticket pass MTB is made available to visitors, allowing them to go on the Soldeu and TSD Solana cable cars with their bike as many times as they like during the day.

FREE-RIDE ROUTES
Situated in the Grandvalira-Soldeu sector, there are 9 itineraries in descending direction, designed for people of any level to evolve and improve. These routes of between 2,500 and 6,000 metres long go from 2,450 metres of altitude (Solana cable car stop) to 1,800 metres (Soldeu town). For access, use the Soldeu and Solana cable cars.

This year we have improved the existing routes and opened three new tracks:

NOU OBAC TRACK
Long descending track (6000 m), very even, allowing bikers to enjoy the descent and take in the unique surroundings. This track starts out at the TSD Solana, passing through the area known as Pla de les Pedres and returning to Soldeu directly, without passing through Pla d’Espiolets.
LA COVA TRACK
This track is a response to the demands of many visitors for a track laid out entirely within a woods, which generates a sensation of speed and provides a peculiar charm. Access is through the Shore track, going down parallel to the Bosc ski lift, also known as La Cova, until we reach the Les Tres Valls Road, and returning to Soldeu. La Cova is of middle to high difficulty, and is 2500 metres long.

ROLLER COASTER TRACK
This is a short track, just 180 metres, but is intense and of great difficulty, since throughout the course we find machine-made "plateau" jumps, ups and downs and folds, allowing us to enjoy a different, intense sensation. It is situated off the Avet track, but is totally different to this and is a very attractive option for specialists in descent.

Routes:

X-COUNTRY ROUTES
These routes are generally flat, although there are different obstacles set out on the course, allowing us to enjoy both the bicycle ride and the magnificent surroundings. In Grandvalira for this summer we have set up beacons alongside a total of 59 km of cross-country routes. These courses are divided in accordance with the level of difficulty: 7 km of starter level, 12 km of intermediate level and 40 km of high level.

The courses are roads for jeeps and paths through woods and pine forests from 1170 m to 2560 m above sea level. The circuits are located between Grau Roig and Canillo, whilst Grau Roig can be reached by car and Soldeu and Canillo by cable car.

MODULES CIRCUIT
This is an area in which to learn, improve and perfect mountain bike techniques. It is an ideal area to practice, before taking on a free-ride descent or a cross-country itinerary. It is a flat circuit around 400 m long, located in Pla d’Espiolets, with all kinds of obstacles: slalom, two ramps, jumps, tree trunks and natural obstacles, ruts, dubbies and banks. This year we have improved both the layout and the content, to adapt it to the needs of visitors.
